Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer II Location: Beverly, MA Type: PermanentPay Range - $90k-100k/yr Position Overview: A leading manufacturer of precision motion control equipment, including servo actuators, planetary gearsets, strain wave gearing components, and integrated gears, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer II. This role involves designing, developing, and documenting new gearing solutions in collaboration with customers, sales engineers, and other departments. Proficiency in CAD design and detailing, particularly using SolidWorks, is required.Key Responsibilities:
Design and develop electromechanical/mechanical products based on customer specifications and create internal and customer-facing documentation that adheres to company and ASME standards.
Collaborate with teams in Japan and Germany when necessary.
Perform component and system-level analysis, troubleshooting, and testing for products in development and production.
Develop test procedures, assembly instructions, and reports to meet customer requirements.
Work with purchasing and manufacturing to source vendors and create Bills of Materials within the ERP system and assembly drawings.
Collaborate with departments such as Quality, Manufacturing, and Assembly to evaluate deficiency reports and propose actions. Prepare deviation/change requests for customer approval as needed.
Participate in root cause investigations and analyses.
Communicate technical information to sales, customers, and vendors.
Manage multiple engineering projects and tasks effectively.
Contribute to improving Harmonic Drive’s development processes and procedures.
Provide leadership in technical and project management aspects.
Mentor and train engineers.
Qualifications:
BS in Engineering (MS preferred).
4-8 years of engineering experience in industrial product design and development.
Certification in SolidWorks and GD&T is a plus.
Intermediate mechanical experience in a manufacturing environment.
Strong problem-solving and electromechanical design skills.
Solid knowledge of engineering drawing interpretation and GD&T practices.
Familiarity with mechanical power transmission and motion control components.
Ability to generate clear and accurate reports.
Strong skills with SolidWorks, Microsoft Office, ERP systems, etc.
Ability to communicate effectively and work across teams professionally.
Project management knowledge and experience in failure analysis.
Experience with inspection tools (CMM, FAIR, etc.) is beneficial.
Familiarity with ISO 9001 and AS9100 standards is a plus.
Notes:Must haves for this role are 6 years’ experience in Medical, Semiconductor, or Aerospace/Defense related field. Have knowledge of electromechanical/mechanical products. Advanced skills in drawing creation in Solidworks, GD&T, and design knowledge.
