Location: North Haven, CTPay Rate: $DOE ResponsibilitiesWe are seeking an experienced personnel for an Office Engineer 1 position for support of a project team. The responsibilities for this field-based position involve administrative duties preparing and maintaining construction project records and correspondence utilizing CTDOT approved document control software and filing methods. This position is also responsible for being knowledgeable and understanding of the project plans, specifications, contract documents, engineering, and environmental plans. The primary responsibilities for this position include;
  • Review and reconcile daily inspection reports, computations, and related documentation.
  • Receive and archive project documentation; submittals, RFIs, memos, letters, construction orders, estimates, and shop drawings.
  • Review and evaluate contractor compliance documents: insurance, subcontractor approvals, wage checks, and labor reports to ensure conformance with required policies and procedures.
  • Log and monitor material testing, certification and acceptance for the project work.
  • Assist in the documentation of item pay quantities and development of the payment estimates.
  • Maintain as-built drawings as project work progresses.
  • Draft contract Change Orders, accurately track change order payments.
  • Prepare and distribute project meeting agendas, meeting minutes, and action item list.
  • Prepare administrative reports, final estimates, and construction closeout documents.
  • Perform site inspections as needed to obtain field measurements, verify project records.
QualificationsKnowledge, Skill, and Ability:The ideal candidate must be well organized and familiar with maintaining project records, and correspondence utilizing CTDOT approved document control methods; has considerable knowledge of construction work, practices and principles utilized on complex CTDOT highway and bridge construction projects, is familiar with the construction guides, practices and details provided for within the CTDOT Standard Specifications Form 818, and the CTDOT Construction Manual; can perform complex quantity and engineering computations; can review and interpret plans and specifications; possesses technical skills to understand and prepare engineering and administrative reports, and a team player able to effectively communicate with the client and project personnel at all levels. Minimum Qualifications – General Experience:Four (4) years of relevant experience with CTDOT, or firm performing civil construction project work.Must be able to read and understand complex construction plans, and specifications.Must be able to write detailed daily inspection reports and perform complex quantity and engineering computations.Must have excellent interpersonal, written, email and telephone communication skills.Must be skilled at using Microsoft Word and Excel. Minimum Qualifications – Substitutions Allowed:Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management or other relevant field and two (2) years of experience in a relevant field. Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Knowledgeable of CTDOT Standard Specifications Form 818, and the CTDOT Construction Manual
  2. Experienced with using AASHTOWare and COMPASS for construction management and document control.
  3. Experience working on federally funded projects.
Special Requirements:
  1. Candidate must possess and retain a valid NICET TCI Level II certification.
  2. Candidate must possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and auto insurance.
  3. Candidate must have reliable transportation.
Physical Requirements:Candidate must be able to perform work in an office environment on an active construction site. Working Conditions:Must be able to report to work year-round in varied weather conditions, and during off-hours and weekends when necessary. Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply immediately!
