Our offices in New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts serve clients nationwide.  We are currently seeking a Senior Chemical Process Engineer for a client in Stratford, CT.Duration: Direct Hire
 Location: Stratford, CT
Pay Rate: $110K plus DOE plus bonus  Description:
  • Responsible for developing a general knowledge of all company products and processes.
  • Develop a working knowledge of all chemistries, unit operations and procedures used to produce core company products.
  • Become Product Owner for assigned products. 
  • Monitor production of the assigned products.  Interact with operations personnel on a daily basis during manufacture.
  • Develop new and/or improve existing COPS including keeping binders up to date and in good physical condition.
  • Direct involvement with Pilot batches and Scale-up of new products
  • Annually review assigned product costs.  Recommend and implement approved changes to the BOM and Route based upon the data.  Identify and implement cost saving ideas.
  • Generate reports and monitor data for key production variables on a monthly or quarterly basis.  Engage operations in the tracking of critical controllable parameters.
  • Takes the lead for risk management and process safety issues related to assigned products.
  • Acts as Maintenance contact for repairs related to the reaction systems for assigned products.
  • Use "root cause" tools to investigate any non-conformances (NC) related to the assigned products.  Own all related NCs or corrective and preventative actions (CPAs) (including customer or administrative) and follow all actions to closure.
  • Maintain, generate, and report information requested by customers.
  • Interact with Sales & Marketing Director on new development opportunities and/ or existing customer relationships as required.
  • Support New Product development thru Stage Gate
  • Coordinating new product ownership and customer relationships
  • Developing and creating documentation required to support new products thru Stage Gate
  • Producing lab scale batches and running design of experiments as needed
  • Working on Pilot batches and training operations with a goal of commercial scale production
  • Active engagement in company Values and Code of Behavior
  • Execute Management of Change for changes related to the affected process, facilities or equipment.  Coordinate with contractors and in-house resources to implement.
  • Using Project Management tools and techniques, lead "special teams" for implementing changes, improvements and/or for trouble-shooting.
  • May include additional “Production Engineer” duties including but not limited to:
  • Expertise in Production Interface issues.
  • Facilitates tactical interface with operations via efficient COP generation and support in reviewing & closing COPs.
  • Closely supports production scheduling including purchasing interface as needed.
  • Tracking of critical process parameters.

Job Requirements:
  • BS / MS in Chemical (preferred), or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
Experience needed:
  • Sr. Level requires 7+ years hands-on experience in a chemical manufacturing environment as a process or production engineer.
  • Proven track record of successful Project Management from initial scoping to final implementation. Project management skills should include demonstrated ability to organize and lead meetings and teams and to manage multiple projects.
  • Experience with batch processing of chemicals a plus, particularly in Lab and Pilot Scale.
  • Experience with glassware and equipment setup in accordance with Lab safety standards.
  • Knowledge of and experience with quality and environmental management systems (OSHA PSM, ISO9001 and ISO14001) a plus.
  • Experience in multi-tasking, prioritizing complex issues and independently managing multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
  • Working knowledge of chemical manufacturing work processes (Management of Change, Process Hazard Analysis, Root Cause Analysis, LEAN, etc.) in a manufacturing facility with desire to implement these types of systems at company a plus.
  • Demonstrated cross-departmental effectiveness and ability to develop solid interpersonal relationships. Positive, productive problem solver.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in mathematical skills.
  • ERP experience a plus.
  • Must be a team player able to function effectively in a high energy, time sensitive environment.
  • Ability to work with complex team, exercising discretionary judgment, evaluation, analysis, problem-solving and creativity.
  • Ability to assess situation and make independent decisions based on established policies and procedures.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and comply with Best Practices.
